Corpus Christi Texas

Corpus Christi is the largest coastal city in Texas. Located south of San Antonio and Southwest of Houston and protected in a bay and by the Padre and Mustang islands, this is one of the prettiest places in Texas.

Known mainly as a vacation spot, the climate, location and proximity to the river and the ocean make it a great place to fish, relax and unwind.

Even though Corpus Christi is one of the oldest cities in Texas, there isn’t much of the old town left. Most corporate rentals will be newer apartments, townhomes and condominiums. They will likely be in purpose-built settings with gated entrances and all modern conveniences.

Employment in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is not known for any one thing and is mainly self-sustaining with some tourism. It’s a diverse economy with retail, wholesaling and government. Unemployment is fairly low.

The Port of Corpus Christi is a major employer and is the country’s fifth largest port. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi is also a major local employer that also includes the Corpus Christi Army Depot and the Coast Guard.

Other employers include CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, the Corpus Christi Independent School District, Bay Ltd, Stripes Convenience Stores and AEP Texas.

Medical centers in Corpus Christi include Corpus Christi Medical Center, Amistad Community Health Center and TLC Medical Center.

Getting around Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP) handles most national airlines and connecting flights to Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston George Bush airports. San Antonio International Airport is also accessible but is a 2.5 hour drive.

Greyhound run buses into Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority runs commuter buses throughout the city.

The city is served by the I-37 which is the only freeway into town. US-77 connects Houston and minor routes takes care of local traffic.

Corpus Christi city life

Corpus Christi is a laid back place with the ocean on one side and the wide open spaces of Texas on the other. With no dominating employer or university to speak of, the population is a real mix of uniformed services and locally employed.

The neighborhoods of Corpus Christi include Calallen, Bay Area, South Side, Flour Bluff, Northwest, Central City and Mustang-Padre Island.
