Knowing where to take the kids to keep them occupied during vacation is a challenge in itself, which is why we put together this guide on great family days out for all the family. While many of these venues are definitely oriented towards children, adults can have a great time too.
So without much further ado, we present the best family days out in Denver.
Lakeside Amusement Park is an old fashioned theme park that still provides a great day out for the family. It is privately owned and is a glimpse back to the glory days of traditional parks. Enjoy an old roller coaster, Ferris wheel and a number of other attractions for a relatively low cost.
Being miles from the nearest ocean doesn’t stop you being able to experience sea life at its best. The Downtown Aquarium provides an opportunity to view sea life in its almost natural environment and get closer than ever to sea creatures of all kinds. There are themed exhibits, regular shows and a coffee shop to recharge the batteries.
Dinosaur Ridge is part of a chain of fossil trails that stretches from New Mexico all the way up to Canada. This part of the ridge is 1¼ miles of trail that shows fossils and bones still buried in the rocks, with helpful explanatory signs along the way. There is also a visitor center that provides more information as well as mementoes of the trip.
Denver’s Water World is one of the largest parks of its kind anywhere in the country. It is 64 acres of watery fun with 20 large rides and plenty of smaller ones. There are also areas to relax, cabanas to rent and plenty of refreshment opportunities. A great day out for all the family.
No family vacation would be complete without a visit to Denver Zoo. The zoo began in 1896 and has grown from there. It now houses over 4000 species of animal and is the best of its kind in the region. There are regular attractions, traveling shows and more to see than you could possibly need.
Elitch Gardens is one of the oldest theme parks around, having opened its doors in 1890. The modern park has roller coasters and other rides as well as a water park. The park gets busy, but is well worth a day out.
Not every city has a museum dedicated to its little ones. The Children’s Museum of Denver will appeal to the under 13’s but is open to all. Everything is designed with children in mind and most things can be touched, watched or handled. It’s a great way to combine entertainment with education, making this an ideal day out for the kids.
Those are just a few highlights from the hundreds of venues and activities for families in and around Denver. There is something here for everyone, regardless of budget or interest. We hope you try at least some of them for yourself!
