Getting around Atlanta
The city’s main airport is Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and is 8 miles south of the city. It is the world’s busiest airport with 192 gates and five runways and should be seen to be believed.
The Atlanta Amtrak station serves a national line from New York down to New Orleans daily. Five Points Station handles local rail coming in from five points using four lines: Red, Gold, Blue, and Green. MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), run local light rail and bus services for local traffic.
Local buses run from MARTA’s Garnett Station and Greyhound uses this station too, Megabus and GoToBus also run services into Atlanta.
Roads begin with I-75, I-85, I-20, I-285 called ‘The Perimeter’ and GA-400. Local roads and highways handle commuter traffic.
Atlanta manages to be both old world Southern and forward looking cosmopolitan. It’s a real cultural mix that adds a unique flavor to life there and adds to the character. Crime is fairly low outside hotspots and the city overall is a great place to be.
