Being a primary city on the west coast, Baltimore has lots going on. While it’s primarily a working city, there are enough outdoor activities, cultural centers and things to do to keep our citizens and visitors happy, wherever the weather.

As you would expect for a city by the sea, a lot of our outdoor pursuits revolve around the water. We have fishing, boating and cruising galore. We also have a number of public parks and entertainment areas too if you don’t feel like getting wet.

FISHING

Fishing is a popular pastime in Baltimore. What was once a primary employer and food provider is now more a leisure activity. Fish onshore by the river, on the beach into the sea, or from one of the many skippered boats that leave port every morning.Baltimore (2)

BOATING

Whether you want to hire your own or have someone take care of it for you, Baltimore has boats for everyone. If you like to stay inshore, why not try a kayak or canoe at Masonville Cove? Sailing is the specialty of the Downtown Sailing Center, who can take care of everything, from lessons to equipment hire. Or try the docks for some seagoing tours.

CRUISING

Having so much water around us makes it the ideal playground. It’s also a great way to see the city. One such cruising opportunity is provided by Captain Don’s Fishing Charters. The firm offers charters, guided river cruises and harbor cruises.

PUBLIC PARKS

Baltimore invests heavily in its public spaces. To date, we have over 6,000 acres of public spaces for our residents and visitors to use. They are a mixture of open parkland, children’s play parks, outdoor performance areas and skate parks to enjoy in the sunshine.

Baltimore also has a number of waterfront park areas around Chesapeake Bay and along the coast. They include boat ramps, picnic areas, trails, parking, playing fields and other amenities.Baltimore (1)

BEACHES

Our beaches are some of the cleanest and best maintained around and are a source of pride for the city. We have a number of public beaches you can enjoy while you’re here. They include; Rocky Point Beach and Park, Miami Beach Park and Oregon Ridge Beach.

As you can see, Baltimore has plenty to offer the citizen and leisure visitor. There is no point working hard all day if you don’t have anywhere nice to spend your time off with the family is there?
